Cassidy responds to Meek Mill's diss with one of his own.

The back-and-forth between Cassidy and Meek Mill continues, with new shots fired courtesy of Cassidy. "Catch a Body" is Cass' response to Meek Mill's "Kendrick You Next," a diss released last week. The track finds Cassidy rhyming over the beat to Canibus' "2nd Round KO," which was originally a diss toward LL Cool J. Meek Mill and Cassidy, both Philadelphia, Pennsylvania natives, have been involved in a feud since last year, with Cassidy releasing his Meek Mill diss tracks "Me, Myself & iPhone" and "Raid" in December 2012 and January 2013, respectively. Meek later said he would no longer address his beef with Cassidy, choosing to not let Cassidy benefit off of Meek's name, though he would later go on to diss Cass in February in a freestyle.

Crooked I Names His Favorite Lyrical Gangsta Rappers

Crooked I Names His Favorite Lyrical Gangsta Rappers
Exclusive: Crooked I lists a few collaborators and artists he looks up to from both coasts. In doing so, the Slaughterhouse member also spotlights a line he never cared for on Jay Z's "Reasonable Doubt." From the very beginning, Crooked I has demonstrated a unique versatility in Hip Hop. In the late '90s as the Long Beach, California emcee was gaining recognition, he doubled his time appearing alongside Heltah Skeltah and Planet Asia on Sway & Tech's This Or That, as well as sharing the mic with Tray Deee, Legacy and Sho Shot on the C-Style Presents... 19th Street compilation a year prior. As a result of that duality, Crooked I was recently asked to list five emcees he considers the most lyrical gangsta rappers. "Oh man," began the devout Hip Hop fan. He pointed to another This Or That alum: "Kool G [Rap]. For me, Kool G was gangsta as fuck." A member of The Juice Crew, the Queens, New York lyricist went on to make street-stuck albums like 1992's Wanted: Dead Or Alive with DJ Polo, in addition to 2002's mafiaso-themed The Giancana Story. Crooked then named Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound, who enlisted Crooked I for his gold-selling 1999 sophomore album, Tha Streetz Iz A Mutha. Throughout his career, the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-born Kurupt has used the alias "Young Gotti," taken from the late leader of the Gambino Family. Crooked I then pointed to another collaborator and a Compton, California legend. "King T. When I was real young, King had some fuckin' ill-ass rhymes. Look at how he spread that shit through Tha Alkaholiks, was instrumental with Xzibit's career," he said, referring to the Likwit Crew that the onetime Capitol Records star formed. Although his own albums largely focused on cars, drunken fun and neighborhood commentary, King Tipsy seamlessly appeared on songs such as Cypress Hill's "Southland Killers," and C-Bo's "Bullets." Asked about the collaboration Crooked appeared on from T's planned 1998 Aftermath Entertainment album Thy Kingdom Come, the emcee recalled. "I was a teenager. I was a kid. I was in the fuckin' room with WC, King T, my homie Bo-Roc from The Dove Shack was doin' the hook, Dr. Dre's sitting in his chair, The D.O.C. is walkin' around. I said 'Wow.' I thought I made it back then to be honest with you." The material would not be included in the 2002 bootleg of the album, which Dr. Dre and Aftermath opted not to release. The emcee then pointed to the man closely associated with the label that Crooked spent a lengthy tenure on. "To be honest with you, Tupac. There are so many shades of Tupac, but he had some gangsta shit. You know what I'm sayin'? There was so much to that man." Crooked I's vocals were paired with 'Pac's, on the 2003 posthumous Death Row release, Nu-Mixx Klazzics, on the single "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted." Admitting this his list excedes five, Crooked said. "The list goes on, bro." He did however add, "To me, all the shit Jay Z was sayin' was gangsta! A lot of that shit was gangsta. He talkin' about shoot-outs. He's sellin' drugs, fuckin' police, gangsta of the year. '22 Two's'—[quoting] 'too much West Coast dick-lickin',' that was the only thing I didn't like on [Reasonable Doubt]. That whole album is a classic—except that line. Nah, I fucks with all that [album]."

The Futurist: Isaiah Toothtaker Knuckles Up

We’ve already visited Queens to speak with Fool’s Gold’s latest signees, World’s Fair and this week we visit Tucson, Arizona to chop it up with Isaiah Toothtaker, a guy that knows a thing or two about putting work in. Check out Isaiah’s story as a rapper, tattoo-artist, father and bare-knuckle brawler. Hip-hop is not what it was 15-years ago, especially when it comes to handling your business in the streets. Some artists choose to use social-media to sub-tweet their opposition, rather than deal with it face-to-face. Then there is 32-year-old, Isaiah Toothtaker, a rapper hailing from Tucson, Arizona, who tends to match his punch count to go along with each of his 140 characters. The dental-terrorist is also a leading member of the mid-west rap coalition, Machina Muerte. But away from the mic, Isaiah is a tattoo artist, a business man, a father and most of all a product of his environment. The only thing spitting more ruthless than the Tucson, MC, is those on the end of one of his connected bloody-punches. Though his message is considered brandish or vulgar at times, Isaiah is one of the most honest and passionate artist in todays climate.

KOTD's Lush One & Aspect One Announce "Battle Of The Bay 6" Battle Rap Event

King of the Dot (KOTD) has announced their next Fresh Coast division Battle Rap event, "Battle of the Bay 6," set to take place in Oakland, California on October 12. Fresh Coast's Aspect One and Lush One recently spoke with HipHopDX about the meaning of the event and discussed the various match-ups slated to be on the card "'Battle of the Bay,' in my opinion, is a landmark event that has so much historic value," Aspect One said in exclusive statement to HipHopDX. "It's such an amazing inspiration for fans. There has been so many battles throughout the 'Battle of The Bay' series and to finally be bringing this back in this capacity, the wait is finally over Cali." Lush One echoed Aspect's sentiments regarding the event. "'Battle of the Bay' is the dopest and most innovative series in Battle Rap history especially for Cali," Lush said in an exclusive statement to HipHopDX. "Because of us doing that shit and groups like Hieroglyphics, now you got lil youngsters all through the hood in East Oakland. This is Cali, not New York. We grew up on mob music and gang culture, not Hip Hop, cyphers, & battles. We helped bring that element to the forefront. It's way bigger and more important to the Bay Area then the Battle Rap community can comprehend. 'Battle of the Bay' means the manifestation of all my hopes and dreams. I lost my chick over that shit basically. I chose this over my life and fuck it, I couldn't be happier."

Kriss Kross’ Chris Kelly Cause Of Death Revealed

Months after the tragic, unexpected death of Hip Hop group Kriss Kross’ Chris Kelly, detail are being revealed about the rappers death. According to reports, there was a mixture of drugs in Kelly’s system: “A medical examiner’s investigator says Chris Kelly of the `90s rap duo Kriss Kross died of a drug overdose. Investigator Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office in Atlanta said Monday that a toxicology screening showed the 34-year-old Kelly had a mixture of drugs in his system when he was pronounced dead on May 1. However, Honey said she did not know which specific drugs Kelly had used. A police report says Kelly’s mother told investigators her son used cocaine and heroin the night before he died and had a history of drug abuse.” (Fox News) Many people in the industry were grieve stricken by the rapper’s passing, including Jermaine Dupri, who had this to say about the MC: “To the world Chris was MacDaddy but to me, he was a son I never had, as much as you may think I taught him, he taught me, God has blessed me to be in the presence of so many naturally talented people, and Chris was one. His understanding of what we set out to do, from day one was always on point. His passion for the music, his love for doing shows, his want to be better than everyone else, was always turnt up. When I think about it, I spent more time with Chris than damn near anybody in my whole life, so you can imagine how bad this hurts. I will always love you Chris, and I will never let the world forget you, may god bless your soul” (XXL Mag)

Birdman Threatens Major Companies

ash Money leader Birdman recently spoke out about Rick Ross being dropped from Reebok, and how if he wanted to, he could have easily started a boycott of the sneakers. “Really, we could’ve reversed that [termination of endorsement deals] because my whole take was, ‘Since they wanna clown, I can clown and group all my people up.’ But on the respect I have for Swizz [Beatz, a Reebok partner], that’s why I didn’t clown,” Birdman told Sway. “I could’ve put all my people together and say, ‘Now my culture and my community, we’re not supportin’ y’all.’” Birdman says he wouldn’t apologize for any of his lyrics and the next time one of his artists come under fire from a corporate entity, he’s ready to flex his muscle. “Next time, we’re gonna stand up and we’re gonna shut that sh– down,” he threatened. (MTV) Other rappers, such as Meek Mill, also spoke out about not supporting the shoe company due to Rick Ross being dropped: “F*ck Reebok, we wear Pumas,” Meek said in an interview. “That’s what we do. We wear Pumas. As far as Ross’ situation with Reebok, I just don’t approve of none of that. I don’t approve of no companies trying to dib and dab in our culture and then when you make a mistake they dip out on you. They’re still making money off our brand. I’m very against that. Ross is off Reebok and Reebok is still going to make money off of Ross. Before Rick Ross, Swizz [Beatz] and Tyga, it was no Reebok no more. These companies actually follow our culture and make money off of our culture and pay us like a pimp out. ‘This b*tch ain’t working today. Put her off the strip.’ If you fire me, we’re going to tear your sh*t back down. Nobody’s wearing Reebok no more. Reebok ain’t cool. Don’t wear that.” (Civil TV)

T.I. Weighs In On Kendrick Lamar

Grand Hustle General T.I. is the latest figure to chime in on the “King of New York” dispute that Kendrick Lamar started with his “Control” verse and said ,with the exception of Jay Z, Kendrick might be right. In a recent interview with VIBE, Tip gave his point of view on the controversial verse. “I think the climate being as it is, the skill level being as it is, the level of artistry being applied to hit records as it is today, overall, not just for one person, but overall, I think he did what he had to do to get motherf*ckers to wake up and step their sh*t up,” Tip said in an interview. “If you ask someone who is highly skilled but less successful, it would not have worked as well. It takes someone who is highly skilled, to be the most successful and to be daring enough to step out. … Him saying that he was the ‘King of New York,’ that was courageous. [laughs] To go against a whole coast? That was courageous. That was heroic. … He said it and he gonna wear it ’cause right now there is no, well, with the exception of Jay, there is no new artist out right now whose as successful or more than Kendrick from New York. There is no new artist whose record plays more than Kendrick’s record in New York. So arguably, he’s correct.” (VIBE) West Coast veteran Snoop Dogg also commented on the situation and said he agrees with the comments from Brooklyn rapper Maino about his thoughts of the verse. “I wouldn’t say New York is soft, I stand behind what Maino said. I was listening to him on the radio station, it was crazy to hear somebody from New York speak from the perspective that he spoke from and he’s a real n*gga, so, you can’t just not take his words into account. I was listening to him speak from his perspective and he basically hit it on the nail. There’s a lot of following going on with sound and influences but what people don’t understand is New York influenced everybody. When hip-hop was born and bred, it was born here and it spread across the whole globe and its influence was definitely going to take on new faces and new bodies and new sounds — but the thing is, it all originated here so there’s no such thing as a true original.” (This Is 50) Snoop also sent out a warning to all the hip-hop artist dissing Lamar about the possible consequences of going after him. “There’s really no originator to what it is but people get so caught up with trying to make beef when [Kendrick's] just making good music. He’s making a point by saying what he’s saying. He’s juggling both coasts, his music is being played over the New York radio stations, all over the West Coast radio stations, he’s selling tons of records, he’s selling out concerts, sh*t, that’s the king. When I was doing that, I proclaimed myself the king. Nobody had a problem with it. It’s just that he’s a nice guy so they have a problem with it. He doesn’t have a gangsta approach. Let me let y’all know, he’s got a hundred thousand motherf*cking gangstas with him, so y’all better watch what y’all say.” (This Is 50) Midwest Rapper TechN9ne also backed up Kendrick and his movement in a recent interview with “Montreality” “My reaction was, ‘Yeah n*gga! Wake these motherf*ckers up!’ Everybody’s so lazy, man. I always raise my bar. My bars are always raised, every album. It’s always pushing my peers to go harder when they do a song with me. So for Kendrick to take it a step further, say names and sh*t, it’s really waking n*ggas up. And if anybody got a problem with my lil homie, you know what I’m saying, I got his back. Sorry and sh*t, let’s go.” (Montreality)

Kendrick Lamar Finally Talks About “Control” Verse

After all the responses and different opinions, Kendrick Lamar has finally come out to address the controversial “Control” verse. K.Dot broke his silence and spoke with Peter Rosenberg and Big Boy of LA’s Power 106. In spite of adequate name-drops, and the now infamous statement of being the king of New York, Mr.Lamar was shocked by all the backlash that was given. “Honestly I didn’t know there would be so much speculation behind it,” said Kendrick. “I just wanted to rap. Anybody that knows me doing music, I wanna just rap.” He also proclaimed himself the “king of New York,” which rubbed some rappers the wrong way. “I think that’s the case right there of maybe I just dumbed down my lyrics just a little bit,” he said. But he didn’t mean it literally. He had a conversation with some of hip-hop’s elite, who weren’t offended by his verse. “The irony of that line is the people that actually understood it and got it, was the actual kings of New York,” explained K-Dot. “You know, me sitting down with them this past week and them understanding that it’s not about actually being the king of whatever coast. It’s about leaving a mark as great as Biggie, as great as Pac.” (Rap-Up)

Lil Scrappy Arrested For Gas Station Fight

Atlanta rapper Lil Scrappy was reportedly in a fight at a local gas station in Georgia, which has now led to an arrest. Lil Scrappy apparently resorted to fighting another man for disrespecting his girlfriend: “Lil’ Scrappy — one of the stars of the VH1 show “Love & Hip Hop” — was arrested at a Georgia gas station yesterday after getting into a fight with a guy who allegedly disrespected his girlfriend, TMZ has learned. Law enforcement tells TMZ … cops received a call about a brawl going down inside the gas station around 2:33 AM. We’re told an off-duty police officer from Atlanta happened to be at the same gas station and sprang into action — successfully breaking up the fight. When on-duty cops arrived to the scene … Scrappy and the other man were arrested for disorderly conduct and hauled to a nearby police station. FYI — the other guy in the fight was Kenny Rogers … not “The Gambler” Kenny Rogers … just a random guy who also happens to share the same name as the country legend.” (TMZ) According to reports, Scrappy was released later on that same day: “We’re told Scrappy was very cooperative once in custody — and was released a short time later. We spoke with Scrappy who insists Kenny Rogers was the aggressor — “He was calling my girlfriend names and then put his hands on me … so I had to lay them paws on him.” Scrappy’s lawyer Mawuli Mel Davis tells us there’s video that proves Scrappy was acting in self-defense. Scrappy says he plans to cooperate with law enforcement moving forward — and is now trying to focus on the next season of his reality show.” (TMZ) Scrappy took to his twitter page to adress the incident.

Drake’s “Nothing Was The Same” Tracklist Released

Young Money superstar Drake has chosen to keep the features down to a minimum on his upcoming “Nothing Was The Same” album and decided to give the fans only a couple collaborations. According to the new tracklisting that was released, Drake’s LP mainly consist of just himself as opposed to his last two solo albums. tracklisting_standard-450x450 New information on Drizzy’s LP and an insider’s look on his “Wu-Tang Forever” track have surfaced online throughout the week. “On the ’90s-rap-inspired song “Wu Tang Forever,” he weaves boasts of sexual virility around a plinking piano and rapid-fire drums. The outro to the album, tentatively titled “Pound Cake,” features two incisive verses from Jay Z, even as Drake asserts himself above any and all competition by the song’s climactic ending. “Studied the game to the letter and I did it better, like I’m supposed to feel guilty?” he rhymes.” (Billboard) According to reports, The LP will showcase a harder rap version of the Young Money rapper. ” “Nothing Was the Same” is the culmination of four years of the Drake musical experiment, in which hip-hop and R&B are held in careful equilibrium within the same artist. The new album largely does away with the purely slow songs that can be found on stretches of previous Drake albums, mostly confining R&B elements to hooks, bridges and atmospherics. As a result, the collection hits harder and more frequently than his earlier material, with Drake putting his rapping prowess at the forefront.” (Billboard) Drake recently gave MTV a little more insight on the cover art of the LP. “When you go to the store and see it, you’ll see the full painting,” Drake explained in an interview. “When it’s positioned on the shelf, whatever store you go to, if they do it as I’ve asked [laughs], you’ll see the fact that it’s a child version of myself staring at myself now. Sometimes when I try and think back on this journey, it’s so hard to pinpoint all of these moments and it gets foggy. Even on past albums when I’ve been trying to tell this story, I’ve got there, but maybe not got there all the way. And what that album art is to me is, like, this is my most clean, concise thoughts from now, and my best recollection of then. That’s really what that cover’s about.” (MTV)
